The New Trend in Product Photography?

A creative way to stand out from the crowd online is to make your images unique. Special if you will. Online clothing stores are spreading like wild-fire. And the only way to show your clothes is through the wonderful medium of photography. American apparel had some controversy surrounding its photography. That’s one way to attract attention. Another way is to step into the realm of movement. And GIFs are a neat way to add that extra flavor to your product photographs.

The Hill-side did just that. A really nice way to attract some attention. Movement always works. Except it does bring up the question if this really fits in the world of photography. It almost enters the realm of film. Or we can see it as an appropriation of the works of Eadweard Muybridge (1830-1904).

Exploding Street Style Fashion Photography

The art of Fashion needs to be covered. And photography is perhaps the perfect way to capture and share those new styles and trends in fashion. And with social media and fashion blogs on the internet it’s easy to reach a large crowd fast. The editors and photographers of these blogs swarm around the fashionable people attracted by Fashion Weeks held around the world. Chasing them, photographing them and in a way consuming their fashion styles to be shared among their hundreds or thousands, perhaps millions followers.

The short documentary created by Garage Magazine is called Take My Picture that explores this explosion in Street Fashion Photography.

When we set out to make this short, our intention simply was to observe the phenomenon of fashion bloggers and street style stars. As we started to review the footage, two salient trends became apparent: fashion editors frustrated by the ensuing commotion outside of shows, and the rise of “peacocking” street style stars as a result of the proliferation of blogs. This film examines these themes from both perspectives. – GARAGE MAGAZINE

His photography is like that of another world or dimension. Strange but beautiful settings. Men wearing suits and hats, women wearing dresses. Each photographs with its own story, or so it seems. Famous Movies through Fashion by Candice Milon

Perhaps the way French photographer Candice Milon captured iconic movie costumes could be a neat way to photograph your own wardrobe. Which shirt matches with which pants?
But back to the series by Candice Milon. She shows us that the clothes worn by movie actors do play an important role in how we remember those movies. It’s a very nice fashion catalog. Or a catalog for potential movie-themed-party-costumes. But for now it’s a nice way for you to guess the characters’ names and movie titles of each photo.

Normally I don’t use PforPHOTO to talk about my own work. But today I found out that two of my photographs have been awarded an Honorable mention at the IPA, International Photography Awards 2012. Hate it or Love it

Just like 50 Cent and The Game once elegantly rapped: Hate it or Love it. I am talking about the works of Terry Richardson. He photographs with a style that can be described as raw. The technique he uses doesn’t make his photographs that special. He manages to ‘strip’ his subject to just that, the subject. With often not more then a white background. Your focus can only go where he wants you to go, to the subject. He makes them act crazy, act sexy or act both ways. It seems so simple, yet it is such a direct and graphically interesting way of shooting one can only applaud the success he has with it. Thumbs up!
